Νορμανδία, Άνοιξη του 1958. Η 21χρονη Ρόζι ζει με τον κατσούφη χήρο πατέρα της που διευθύνει το κεντρικό μαγαζί του χωριού. Αρραβωνιασμένη με τον γιο του μηχανικού, όλα δείχνουν ότι προορίζεται για την ήρεμη ζωή μιας νοικοκυράς. Όταν ταξιδεύει στο Λιζιέ για να βρει δουλειά ως γραμματέας, αλλά ενώ η συνέντευξη αποδεικνύεται καταστροφική, αποκαλύπτεται η ικανότητα της στη γρήγορη δακτυλογραφία. Το αφεντικό, ο Λουίς, νιώθει να ξυπνάει το αθλητικό πνεύμα μέσα του και ορίζει διαγωνισμό δακτυλογράφησης, τον οποίο αν νικήσει η Ρόζι θα πάρει και τη δουλειά. Μάλιστα, ο Λουίς προτίθεται να γίνει ο προσωπικός της προπονητής.
