Το 1944, η Σούζο Ούρανο μετακομίζει στη μικρή πόλη Κούρε της Χιροσίμα, όπου παντρεύεται τον Σούσακου Χότζο, έναν νεαρό υπάλληλο που εργάζεται στην τοπική ναυτική βάση.
