Η ιστορία εξελίσσεται γύρω απο τον Marius (Giovanni Ribisi), έναν απατεώνα ο οποίος αποφυλακίζεται και χρησιμοποιεί πλέον την ταυτότητα του συγκρατούμενου του Pete. Ο Marius μετακομίζει στην ανυποψίαστη οικογένεια του Pete απο την οποία απουσιάζει για περισσότερα απο 20 χρόνια β και εντάσσεται στην οικογενειακή επιχείρηση των εγγυοδοτήσεων αποφυλάκισης. Στην προσπάθεια του να διατηρήσει την κοροϊδία, αναλαμβάνει το ρόλο του ανιχνευτή καταζητουμένων, καταδιώκοντας εγκληματίες πολύ χειρότερους απο αυτόν, ενώ την ίδια ώρα απολαμβάνει την οικογενειακή ζωή που ποτέ δεν είχε.
