کاباره بر مبنای نمایش موزیکال موفقی در برودوی ساخته می شود و تصویری هولناک و تفکر برانگیز از برلین در دوره ی جمهوری وایمار ارائه می دهد. کارگردانی و طراحی رقص فیلم (طبعاً کار خود فاسی) سبک خاصی دارد. مینه لی آمیزه ای از معصومیت و ناپاکی است و یورک در قالب معمول و بچه محصل وارش در آن سال ها، خوب جا افتاده است. ـ داستان: برلین، اوایل دهه 1930. «سلی بولز» (مینه لی) یکی از نمایشگران کلوب کیت کت با «برایان رابرتس» (یورک) آشنا می شود؛ یک جوان تحصیل کرده ی انگلیسی که برای پیشرفت زبان آلمانی به برلین آمده و با آموزش زبان انگلیسی روزگار می گذراند. آن دو ابتدا دوستی ساده ای را آغاز می کنند اما پس از چندی به هم دل می بازند...
