علی که کفش کهنه و تعمیر شده خواهرش زهرا را از کفاش محل گرفته، آن را در بازگشت به خانه گم میکند. او برای آن که این اتفاق در زندگی نامطلوب اقتصادیشان خللی ایجاد نکند، مخفیانه با خواهرش قرار میگذارد تا نوبتی از کفش کتانی خودش استفاده کنند. در همین گیر و دار علی عزمش را جزم میکند تا در مسابقه دو و میدانی مدارس شرکت کند و به جایزه نفر سوم (یک جفت کفش ورزشی) دست یابد.
