John Smith ajaa autolla pahan kolarin, jonka seurauksena hän vajoaa koomaan. Viiden vuoden kuluttua hän herää yllättäen. Fyysisesti John on täysin rappeutunut, mutta koomassa maatessaan hän on saanut kuudennen aistin. John on saanut kyvyn, jota ei ole halunnut, mutta joka tuo mukanaan vastuun tulevasta.
