Raikas ja sympaattinen elokuva oli ohjaaja Lukas Moodyssonin menolippu maineeseen. Ruotsalaisessa Åmålin pikkukaupungissa ei tapahdu oikeastaan mitään, ja yläastetta käyvä Elin on turhautunut, vaikka onkin koulun suosituimpia tyttöjä. Ahdistavaksi olonsa tuntee myös rinnakkaisluokalla oleva Agnes, joka on yksinäinen ja rakastunut Eliniin. Elin alkaa seurustella tavan vuoksi, mutta saadessaan tietää Agnesin tunteista hän alkaa miettiä asioita uudestaan.
