12-vuotias Carlos joutuu ankeaan Santa Lucian orpokotiin. Santa Luciaa johtavat rampa pääemäntä Carmen ja salaperäinen professori Casares. Orpokoti sijaitsee autiolla paikalla, ja sen pihaa rumentaa valtava, räjäyttämätön pommi. Julmasti murhatun nuoren pojan, Santin, kummitus ilmestyy Carlosille.
