On vuosi 2065 ja maa on hyökkäyksen kohteena. Meteoriitti tuo tullessaan miljoonia ulkoavaruuden valloittajia, jotka uhkaavat tuhota kaiken elämän maapallolta. Ihmiset pakenevat linnoitettuihin kaupunkeihin ja yrittävät puolustautua avaruuden uhkaa vastaan. Nerokas tiedenainen Aki Ross kehittää neuvokkaan suunnitelman, jonka avulla pelastaa ihmiskunta.
