Taikuus, fantasia ja kelttiläinen mytologia yhdistyvät tässä visuaalisessa tarinassa, joka kertoo mielikuvituksen voimasta sekä uskosta säilyttää ihmisyys myös synkkinä aikoina. Nuori Brendan elää Kellsin luostarissa, kaukaisessa keskiaikaisessa linnakkeessa, joka on barbaarien hyökkäyksen kohteena. Eräänä päivänä paikalle saapuu mestari kaukaisilta mailta, joka tuo mukanaan muinaisen, mutta vielä keskeneräisen, salaisista tiedoista ja voimista kertovan kirjan. Auttaakseen kirjan kirjoittamisessa Brendanin pitää voittaa synkimmät pelkonsa jotka vievät hänet taiottuun metsään jossa myyttiset oliot piileskelevät. Siellä hän tapaa Aisling-nimisen keijun, nuoren susitytön, joka ryhtyy auttamaan Brendania. Pystyykö Brendan barbaarien lähestyessä päättäväisyydellään ja taiteellisella visiollaan valaisemaan pimeyden ja näyttämään, että valaistuminen on paras suoja pahoja voimia vastaan?
