Valon ja pimeyden voimat ovat eläneet hauraassa aselevossa satojen vuosien ajan... tähän päivään asti. Sekä valoa edustava Yövartio että pimeyttä edustava Päivävartio ylläpitävät kauhun tasapainoa, tarjoten yliluonnollisiksi todetuille ihmisille, Muukalaisille, mahdollisuuden liittyä jompaankumpaan ryhmittymään. Samaan aikaan, kun muinainen kirous vainoaa nykypäivän Moskovaa, jo kauan sitten ennustetulla "valitulla" on voima järkyttää voimien tasapainoa pimeän puolen hyväksi. Mystisten tapahtumien sarja käynnistää kauan pelätyn ikiaikaisen ennustuksen ja seurauksena puhkeaa maailmankaikkeuden raivokkain, apokalyptinen sota. Ohjaaja Timur Bekmambetov on visionääri ja saa Sergei Lukyanenkon menestyneen kirjasarjaan perustuvan Night Watch:in tarinan heräämään henkiin loistavalla kuvaksella ja hämmästyttävillä tehosteilla.
