Entinen poliisi Roy sairastaa Alzheimerin tautia ja häneen kokeillaan uutta hoitoa. Hoidon tueksi lääkäri neuvoo Royta harjoittamaan aivojumppaa vaikka palapelejä tekemällä. Sattuvasti Roy saa yhteydenoton ihmisoikeusjärjestön aktiivilta ja käy tapaamassa aikanaan pidättämäänsä kuolemaantuomittua, joka teloituksensa alla saa vakuutettua Royn siitä, ettei ole tehnyt tunnustamaansa murhaa. Roy alkaa selvittää vanhaa rikosjuttuaan nyt uusin silmin, sillä hän ei muista tapauksesta mitään. Vuosia aiemmin Roy ja hänen entinen työparinsa Jimmy luulivat ratkaisseensa tapauksen, mutta nyt heidän on korjattava virheensä.
