טום הוא בעל ואב מסור ונאמן, שדבר לא מזעזע את חייו השקטים והשלווים לצד אשתו מגי ובנו ג'ייק. יום אחד, בעת מסיבה בשכונה, מניח טום לגיסתו ליסה, להפנט אותו. מה שמתחיל כשעשוע בידורי, מקבל תפנית מפתיעה ומאיימת כשמשהו משחרר כוח כלשהו מתת המודע שלו, שכתוצאה ממנו מתחיל טום להאמין כי ישות על טבעית מתגוררת בביתו. הוא מתחיל לחוות כאבי ראש איומים, רואה חזיונות מפחידים ומרגיש כי משפחתו, בסכנה חמורה. טום מחליט לגלות מה הסיבה לתחושות אלה, אפילו אם המחיר שהוא יצטרך לשלם יהיה גבוה מאוד!
