סדרת הדוקו המדוברת של נטפליקס שצולמה במשך מעל לעשור. הסדרה מגוללת את סיפורו של סטיבן אייברי, בן למשפחה ענייה של מתבודדים המתגוררת במחוז מניטווק בוויסקונסין. ב-1985 הואשם אייברי בניסיון אונס ברוטלי. על אף שהראיות במקרה היו שנויות במחלוקת, אייברי הורשע על ידי חבר המושבעים ונשלח לכלא. לאחר 18 שנים בכלא, ראיות דנ"א ניקו את אייברי מאשמה, והוא שוחרר. לאחר שחרורו, הגיש תביעת ענק נגד המחוז אשר הרשיע אותו שלא כצדק. שבועות לפני הדיון בבית המשפט, אייברי מואשם בשנית, הפעם באונס ורצח צלמת בשם תרזה הולבק. וכך, בפעם השנייה בחייו, יוצא אייברי להילחם על חפותו, אלא שבמקרה הזה עומדים מולו השוטרים ואנשי המחוז ואשר אותם ביקש לתבוע על הנזק שנעשה לחייו.
