U snijegom okovanoj Wabashi u Minnesoti dvojica postarijih susjeda John Gustafson (J. Lemmon) i Max Goldman (W. Matthau) ne prestaju vrijeđati jedan drugoga, iako su bili najbolji prijatelji.
