Sjedeći pred policijskim istražiteljem (J. Nolan), mladi Londončanin Bill (J. Theobald) mu počinje prepričavati okolnosti zločina za koji je osumnjičen. On je nezaposleni scenarist koji je, pokušavajući pronaći nadahnuće za nova djela, jednog dana odlučio određene nepoznate ljude pratiti gradskim ulicama. Birao je samo one koji su mu se činili zanimljivima, a među njima je bio i markantni Cobb (A. Haw), koji je ubrzo primijetio svog pratitelja. Nakon što mu je Cobb prišao i iznenađujuće susretljivo se predstavio, Bill je doznao da je riječ o čovjeku koji je gotovo do savršenstva razvio načine provaljivanja u tuđe stanove.
