17 tahun yang lalu, makhluk abadi pertama kali muncul di medan perang Afrika. Kemudian, bentuk kehidupan abadi baru yang langka dan tidak diketahui mulai muncul di antara manusia, dan mereka dikenal sebagai "Ajin" (demi-manusia). Tepat sebelum liburan musim panas, seorang siswa sekolah menengah Jepang langsung tewas dalam kecelakaan lalu lintas dalam perjalanan pulang dari sekolah. Namun, dia dihidupkan kembali, dan harga ditempatkan di kepalanya. Dengan demikian dimulailah kehidupan seorang anak laki-laki yang melarikan diri dari seluruh umat manusia.
