La famiglia Suthpin possiede tutto. La felicità familiare è difesa con i denti da mamma Suthpin affinché nulla incrini la perfezione del focolare domestico. A parte questo Beverly Suthpin coltiva due bizzarri hobbies: farsi mandare cassette con la voce del famoso serial killer Ted Bundy e tormentare con telefonate oscene Dottie Hinkle, rea di averle inflitto uno sgarbo al supermarket.
