La vera storia di Waris Dirie, che inizia nei deserti africani per finire nel mondo delle top model. All'età di 13 anni fugge dalla famiglia nomade per scampare ad un matrimonio forzato. Aiutata dalla nonna a Mogadiscio, viene inviata a Londra dove diventa una serva dell’Ambasciata Somala. Questo la esclude dall'apprendimento della lingua inglese. Si guadagnerà poi da vivere con lavori umili, finchè un giorno il fotografo Terry Donaldson la convince a posare. Waris, al culmine del suo successo, trova il coraggio di raccontare la sua storia.
