David vive a Parigi, dove sbarca il lunario con piccoli lavoretti occasionali. L’unico contatto familiare è rappresentato dallo stretto legame con la sorella Sandrine e la nipotina di 7 anni Amanda, cresciuta senza un padre. Durante l'estate David incontra Lena, appena trasferitasi a Parigi, e tra i due nasce presto un amore. Quando tutto sembra andare per il meglio le loro vite vengono sconvolte da un attacco terroristico nel cuore di Parigi, nel quale Sandrine perde la vita. Oltre a dover affrontare lo shock e il dolore della perdita, David deve ora prendersi cura della giovane nipote Amanda e trovare, insieme a Lena, una nuova serenità per ricominciare, insieme, a vivere.
