Jean-Louis Joubert, agente di cambio rigoroso e padre di famiglia un po' "rigido", scopre che un allegro gruppo di belle cameriere spagnole vive al sesto piano del suo palazzo borghese. Maria, la giovane donna che lavora a casa sua, gli apre le porte di un universo esuberante e folkloristico, diametralmente opposto alle buone maniere e all'austerità del suo ambiente. Colpito da queste donne piene di vita, Jean-Louis si lascia andare e per la prima volta assapora con emozione i piaceri più semplici. Ma si può davvero cambiare vita ad una certa età?
