Thor è un uomo dall'indole inquieta e, anche a costo di sacrificare il suo matrimonio, vuole realizzare a tutti i costi il sogno di affrontare l'oceano Pacifico a bordo di una zattera, il Kon-Tiki. Insieme a cinque fedeli amici, Thor parte all'avventura e segue un'antica rotta di oltre 4300 miglia, durante la quale scopre che la più grande forza della natura è quella di sopravvivenza. Attaccati dagli squali, da onde gigantesche e dalle mille insidie dell'oceano, i sei uomini faranno di tutto pur di poter toccare nuovamente terra.
