Oppure i responsabili sono da individuare tra le multinazionali della ristorazione veloce? Il filmaker Morgan Spurlock sale in macchina facendo tappa in venti città americane per intervistare medici generici, preparatori atletici, cuochi, ragazzi, avvocati e legislatori. Durante i trenta giorni di viaggio, Spurlock pensa bene di "mettersi in forma" e decide di consumare i suoi pasti soltanto nei ristoranti McDonald's, seguento qualche semplice regola: 1) per tutto il mese la sua scelta deve limitarsi a quanto offerto dalla famosa catena di fast food, 2) niente menu grandi a meno che non fossero espressamente proposti dallo staff, 3) mangiare tutti i cibi in vendita almeno una volta.
