Nel 1815, Edmond Dantès, giovane e promettente capitano, viene arrestato ingiustamente la sera del suo fidanzamento con la bella Mercedes. Vittima di un crudele complotto, viene accusato di bonapartismo e condannato a una lunga prigionia nello Château d'If, un’isola inaccessibile al largo di Marsiglia. Dopo 18 anni di sofferenza, riesce a fuggire e, grazie a un favoloso tesoro nascosto sull’isola di Montecristo, rinasce come il misterioso e potente Conte di Montecristo. Ora, ricco e influente, ha un solo scopo: vendicarsi di coloro che lo hanno tradito e distrutto la sua vita.
