Black Books è incentrato sul proprietario di una libreria irascibile e selvaggiamente eccentrico Bernard Black. La devozione di Bernard ai piaceri gemelli dell'ubriachezza e dell'antagonismo volontario approfondisce e arricchisce sia la sua vita che quella di Manny, il suo assistente.
