1943年、イギリス軍の暗号解読センター。ここに様々な分野の専門家が集められナチスドイツの暗号化装置“エニグマ”機の解読が進められていた。その頃、チームの中心的存在で若き天才数学者のジェリコは、同じセンターで働く恋人クレアと喧嘩別れしたことが原因で神経衰弱に陥り、強制的に休暇を取らされていた。そんなある日、彼は急遽センターに呼び戻される。ようやく解読に成功したエニグマの暗号コードが突然変更されたのだ。連合軍は一転して窮地に立たされる。イギリス諜報部のウィグラムはこの一件でチーム内にスパイがいると睨み捜査を開始する…。
