その日、コルドとクララはバルセロナの結婚式場で永遠の愛を誓い合う。新郎の従弟はビデオカメラを回し、参列者たちの姿を撮っていた。やがてカメラは一族きっての明るい性格の叔父ペペが、病院で犬にかまれたという、彼の右手に巻かれた包帯を映し出す。

テレビのドキュメンタリー番組を制作中の女性レポーター・アンヘラは、通報を受けた消防隊に同行してとあるアパートを訪れる。そこには血まみれになって立ちつくす1人の老婆がいた。老婆は駆けつけた警察官を突然襲いはじめ……。閉ざされたアパートの中で想像を絶する恐怖に見舞われる人々の姿を、手持ちカメラ目線によるドキュメンタリー・タッチの映像で描き出し、本国スペインで大ブームを巻き起こしたパニック・ホラー。

ある夜、TV局レポーターのアンジェラはロサンゼルス消防士の密着取材のため、彼らのレスキューに同行し、老朽化した小さなアパートを訪れる。そこで何かに感染したために狂人となった老婆が警官に襲い掛かり、アンジェラたちは警官を救出するも、アパートは警察により封鎖され脱出不可能となっていた。TVクルーが撮影したビデオテープだけに、その夜の凄惨な映像が克明に記録されていた。主演は「エミリー・ローズ」のジェニファー・カーペンター。
