Filmas prasideda nuo pirmąkart rengiamo Siaubo Kauksmo festivalio atidarymo Luizianoje. Jame susirenka visokio plauko moksliukai, keistuoliai ir užkietėję siaubo gerbėjai iš visų pasaulio kampų. Tarp jų ir gerbėjas Čeisas su savo mergina Leine, kurią priverčia vykti kartu. Artėjant festivaliui, Leinė pradeda matyti nepaaiškinamas pranašystes ir vizijas, kurios asocijuojasi su miestelio praeitimi ir ypač su vietine legenda/mitu - Baubu. Festivaliui prasidėjus, Leinė pradeda tikėti, kad kažkas buvo iškviesta kažkas nežemiško ir ji yra viso to centre.
