Po daugybės metų, praleistų toli nuo tėvynės saulėtoje Amerikos Kalifornijos valstijoje, Amiras sugrįžta į gimtąjį Afganistaną. Jį parveda kaltė. Vaikai susidraugavo, kartu augo, žaidė, skraidino spalvotus aitvarus... Ir vieną dieną Amiras išdavė savo draugą. Ši išdavystė po daugelio metų priverčia Amirą sugrįžti namo ir pabandyti išpirkti savo kaltę.
