Dar būdamas jaunuolis Werneris Herzogas susižavėjo aktoriumi Klausu Kinskiu. Atostogaudamas su mama pensione, Werneris už sienos dvi dienas girdėjo, kaip vonios kambaryje kaimynas viską daužė, kol aplink teliko dulkės. Paaiškėjo, kad tai ir buvo Kinskis. „Filmas „Mano mylimiausias priešas“ nėra filmas apie filmo kūrimo procesą apskritai. Tai filmas apie labai intensyvų ir beprotišką ryšį […] kartais visai nedaug trūkdavo, kad Klauso Kinskio arba mūsų abiejų lavonai būtų gulėję filmavimo aikštelėje.“ „Mes dramatiškai ginčydavomės, pešdavomės, tačiau mus siejo aklas ir gilus pasitikėjimas. Tai nepriklausė nuo mūsų, likimas mus suvedė ir vertė būti kartu. Mes tai žinojome ir priėmėme.“
