Istorija apie gyvenimą, kūrybą ir dvasinius blaškymus didingiausio ikonų tapytojo Andrėjaus Rubliovo istorinių įvykių fone draskomoje feodalinėje Rusijoje. Filmas buvo uždraustas rodyti Tarybu Sąjungoje, buvo nelegaliai parodytas Kanų kino festivalyje 1969 metais, sukėlė ten sensaciją ir buvo parduotas rodymui į daugeli pasaulio šalių. Tarybu Sąjungoje filmas buvo išleistas 1971 metais. Iki šių dienų „Andrėjus Rubliovas“ yra vienas iš didingiausiu Rusijos kinematografijos pasiekimų su tikru aktorių žvaigždynu. Pagal tarptautinių kinokritikų apklausas filmas įtrauktas į 100 geriausių filmų per visą kinematografijos istoriją.
