Karinio jūrų laivyno laivas Neitanas Džeimsas buvo išsiųstas į misiją Arktyje. Ar bent jau taip galvojo. Kartu vyko ir daktarė Reičelė Skot. Po kelių mėnesių, daktarei dirbant ant ledo, juos užpuola neatpažinti vyrai. Jiems grįžus į laivą, kapitonas, Tomas Čendleris, nori sužinoti, kas vyksta. Reičelė paaiškina, kad prieš kelis mėnesius įvyko mirtino viruso protrūkis. Jie manė, kad jį sulėtino, bet vaistų vis tiek neturėjo. Daktarai manė, kad vakcinos pagrindinę dalį galima rasti Arktyje. Tačiau per tą laiką buvo pranešta, kad virusas pasklido po beveik visą pasaulį. Čendleris bando susisiekti su prezidentu tačiau sužino, kad ir jis, ir vice prezidentas yra mirę ir pačiai vyriausybei, greičiausiai, gyventi liko nebedaug. Tuometinis prezidentas kapitoną nuraminą, nes virusui sklindant jie nebuvo karštosiose zonose, taigi liko nepaliesti. Tačiau dabar jiems yra pavesta saugoti daktarę Skot, nes jos rankose yra pasaulio viltis. Bet pasaulyje dar likę žmonių, kurie nori vakcinos savo tikslams ir yra pasiryžę viską dėl jos padaryti. Taigi, laivas tęsia savo kelionę po pasaulį ieškodamas preparatų, kurių reikia Reičelei, kad ji galėtų pagaminti vakciną.
