Gyvenantieji 2013 metais net neįtaria, kad netrukus iš gausybės Žemės planetos gyventojų teliks milijonai, jeigu ne tūkstančiai žmonių. Dėl mirtį nešančio viruso įvyks pasaulinė katastrofa. 2043 metais žmonės priversti slėptis po žeme. Tačiau iš kur šis virusas išplito ir kas buvo pirmasis pacientas, ilgai nebuvo žinoma. Naujausios informacijos dėka buvo sužinota viruso atsiradimo data ir vardas žmogaus, kuris su tuo susijęs. Mokslininkų grupė išrado technologijas, kurios gali žmogų perkelti į praeitį. Bandomuoju triušiu pasirenkamas įžūlus ir už nepaklusnumą valdžiai nuteistas Džeimsas Koulas. Mokslininkai nutaria pakeisti istoriją ir šį kalinį nusiųsti į 2013 metus. O toji kelionė iš ateities į praeitį yra kupina mirtinų pavojų. Koulas turi susisiekti su daktare virusologe Reili ir sunaikinti žmogų, kuris sukūrė virusą. Jaunoji daktarė vargu ar suvokia, kaip pasikeis jos tolesnis gyvenimas po susitikimo su Koulu. Juk jis turi sunaikinti tai, kas buvo apokalipsės pradžia. Ir tuomet jam bus atleistos visos jo nuodėmės...
