Oreki Houtarou ialah seorang budak sekolah menengah minimalis. Suatu hari, dia menyertai Kelab Kesusasteraan Klasik atas permintaan kakaknya. Di sana dia bertemu Chitanda Eru, Fukube Satoshi, dan Ibara Mayaka. Chitanda ialah seorang gadis cantik yang tenang tetapi dia bertukar menjadi penjelmaan rasa ingin tahu sebaik sahaja dia berkata, "Saya ingin tahu." Fukube ialah seorang budak lelaki yang tersenyum dengan ingatan hebat yang menggelarkan dirinya sebagai pangkalan data. Ibara ialah seorang gadis pendek dan tegas dengan orang lain dan dirinya sendiri. Mereka mula menyiasat kes yang berlaku 45 tahun lalu. Petunjuk misteri itu dikebumikan dalam koleksi lama karya bekas ahli Kelab Klasik. Koleksi itu bertajuk "Hyouka."
