Kai Masahiko was ooit een gerespecteerd krijgskunstenaar, maar zijn carrière gaat achteruit. Zijn vechtsportschool vindt nauwelijks nieuwe leerlingen, terwijl zijn vrouw verslaafd is aan de fles en hem op een dag zelfs verlaat. Kai is er getuige van dat Ryu Tenmei zijn vriendin beschermt tegen een straatbende en ziet een groot potentieel in de jonge vechter. Hij geeft Ryu les zodat hij kan meedoen aan de Freefight Championships in Hong Kong en de naam van zijn school weer kan laten schitteren. Wanneer Ryu echter in de finale wordt vermoord door de brutale Chang Lee, stort Kai's wereld volledig in. De meester is vol schuldgevoelens en gaat zelf aan de fles totdat een vriend van vroeger opduikt en hem een suggestie doet: hij wil Kai trainen zodat hij kan concurreren met Chang Lee, Ryu's dood kan wreken en zijn innerlijke rust kan terugvinden. ...
