Fire menn raner på vågalt vis en bank midt på dagen, dumper pengene i en søppelbøtte og går hver til sitt. Thomas Crown, en vellykket, styrtrik forretningsmann, stanser med sin Rolls Royce og henter utbyttet. Vickie Anderson, en vakker forsikringsetterforsker, får i oppdrag å skaffe tilbake pengene.
