Chernobyl Diaries er en originalhistorie fra Oren Peli, som tidligere har skremt vettet av publikum med sin thrillersuksess Paranormal Activity. Filmen følger en gruppe med seks turister, som ønsker å ta turer utenom de vanlige turistfellene. De leier en ekstremtur-guide som ignorerer advarslene og tar de med til den forlatte byen Pripyat, hvor de tidligere arbeiderne på kjernekraftverket i Tjernobyl bodde. Byen har ligget øde i 25 år, men etter en stund på oppdagelsesferd i Pripyat finner de ut at de slett ikke er alene.
