Ollie Trinke er en smart pressesjef i musikkbransjen med en vakker gravid kone, en rask bil og penthouse-leilighet på Manhattan. Plutselig står han uten eksklusiv jobb og eksklusiv kone, men inklusive en liten datter, som han ikke har noen anelse om hvordan han skal passe på. Det fører ham tilbake til barndomshjemmet i det uglamorøse New Jersey hvor hans varmhjertede, men lettere alkoholiserte og ikke særlige forbilledlige far står klar til å gi gode råd.
