HAIKYU!! The Dumpster Battle to sportowe anime obracające się wokół miłości Shoyo Hinaty do siatkówki. Zainspirowany drobną posturą profesjonalnego siatkarza, Hinata tworzy drużynę siatkarską w ostatniej klasie gimnazjum. Niestety, w pierwszym turnieju drużyna zmierzyła się z drużyną „króla boiska” Tobio Kageyamy i nieuchronnie przegrała. Po miażdżącej porażce Hinata przysięga, że prześcignie Kageyamę. Po rozpoczęciu nauki w liceum Hinata dołącza do drużyny siatkarskiej, ale okazuje się, że w jej składzie jest również Tobio.
