Historia romantycznej, ale też tragicznej miłości Borysa i Weroniki. Młodzi bardzo się kochają, snują plany na przyszłość. Jednak ich szczęście zostaje brutalnie przerwane, gdy wybucha wojna. Borys jedzie na front. Weronika zostaje sama. Giną jej rodzice, od chłopaka nie ma żadnych wieści. Jest zrozpaczona, gdyż nie może od nikogo uzyskać pomocy. Ulega więc przyrodniemu bratu Borysa. Jednak małżeństwo z Markiem szybko okazuje się pomyłką, gdyż Weronika nie potrafi zapomnieć Borysa i uczuć, jakie ich łączyły.
