Gene Ryack (Mel Gibson) și Billy Covington (Robert Downey Jr.) formează un duo de piloți americani ce efectuează transporturi aeriene ilegale. Gene pare să fie omul pe care nu îl atinge nimic, fiind interesat doar de latura de “curaj și glorie” a temporarei sale îndeletniciri, spre deosebire de Billy, în mintea căruia apar neîncetat întrebări legate de implicațiile morale ale misiunii sale. Când un general manifestă un interes mai mare față de opiumul transportat, decât față de oamenii care își riscau viețile efectuând zborul, Gene își schimbă modul de gândire. Pus în ipostaza de a alege între a efectua zborul de rutină și a salva câteva zeci de refugiați, Gene ia rapid o hotărâre. O comedie spumoasă condimentată din plin cu situații limită, la care se adaugă farmecul incontestabil al celor doi protagoniști principali.
