De data aceasta, urmărirea vicleanului Fantomas îi aduce pe comisarul Juve, pe jurnalistul Fandor și pe logodnica sa Helena la Roma, unde este convocat un important congres științific. Vedeta acestui congres urmează să fie profesorul Lefebvre, un om de știință angajat în cercetarea în domeniul hipnozei. Descoperirile sale sunt atât de revoluționare încât se poate presupune că Fantomas va fi interesat de bătrânul om de știință și va avea grijă de dispariția lui. Răpirea va avea loc într-adevăr, deși determinarea adevăratului profesor dintre trei identici nu este o sarcină ușoară pentru comisarul Juve. În urmărire, Fantomas are puține speranțe de evadare, dar ce are la dispoziție?
