Filmul spune povestea familiei Michelucci, din anii șaptezeci până în prezent: personajul central este uimitoarea frumusețe Anna, mama vioaie, frivolă și uneori jenantă a lui Bruno și Valeria. Totul începe în vara anului 1971, la concursul anual de frumusețe de vară care are loc la cel mai popular centru de băi din Livorno. Anna este încoronată neașteptat "Cea mai frumoasă mamă", stârnind fără să vrea gelozia violentă a soțului ei. De atunci, haosul lovește familia și pentru Anna, Bruno și sora sa Valeria, este începutul unei aventuri care se va încheia abia peste treizeci de ani.
