După ce Fiona și cei trei copii ai lor sperie niște adolescenți care mergeau la colindat, Shrek, Măgarul, Motanul, Cei Trei Purceluși, Lupul cel Rău, Gingy și Pinocchio (după ce au încercat fără succes să-l sperie pe Shrek și familia sa) decid să spună povești înfricoșătoare. Shrek susține că oricine poate spune cea mai înfricoșătoare poveste fără a fi eliminat va fi încoronat Rege al Halloweenului. Ei merg în regatul dărăpănat Duloc, unde domnea odinioară Lordul Farquaad, și se instalează în castelul său abandonat.
