„K-19 The Widowmaker” nu este un film dedicat razboiului, ci curajului necesar pentru a-l refuza. Este dedicat virtutilor militare: forta, inteligenta si curajul. Prezinta o lume dominata de tehnologie, in care sacrificiul in numele securitatii nationale este des intalnit. Exemplifica sentimentul de datorie nutrit de un soldat fata de tara si poporul sau si dezvaluie povara responsabilitatii unui lider fata de cei aflati sub comanda sa. In cele din urma, arata cat de usor se pot produce tragedii, atat in timp de razboi, cat si in timp de pace, din cauza unui accident, a unei defectiuni.... sau a unei erori umane.
