Film rozpráva príbeh rodiny Michelucciovcov od sedemdesiatych rokov až po súčasnosť: ústrednou postavou je ohromujúco krásna Anna, živá, povrchná a niekedy trápna matka Bruna a Valérie. Všetko sa začína v lete 1971 na každoročnej letnej súťaži krásy, ktorá sa konala v najpopulárnejšom kúpeľnom zariadení v Livorne. Anna je nečakane korunovaná za "Najkrajšiu matku", čo nevedomky vyvoláva násilnú žiarlivosť jej manžela. Odvtedy rodinu zasiahne chaos a pre Annu, Bruna a jeho sestru Valeriu je to začiatok dobrodružstva, ktoré skončí až o tridsať rokov neskôr.
