Dej sa postupne splieta z troch motívov. Prvým je lovec Xi, vydávajúci sa na dlhú cestu, aby vrátil bohom dar, fľašu Coca-Coly, ktorá namiesto pomoci prináša ľuďom nezhody a hádky. Druhým je úspešná novinárka Kate, ktorá sa rozhodla zmeniť zamestnanie, chce sa stať učiteľkou v misijné škole a nesmelý mikrobiológ Andrew sa do nej zamiluje. Tretím je banda neúspešných atentátnikov na úteku, ktorí zajmú deti z misijnej školy aj s Kate ako rukojemníkov, aby im umožnili prejsť cez hranicu.
