Keď sa v septembri 2012 experti na saturačné potápanie Chris Lemons, Dave Yuasa a Duncan Allcock vydali na rutinnú expedíciu, v hĺbke niekoľkých stoviek metrov technická porucha počítača spôsobila, že ich loď začal unášať prúd. Zároveň sa pretrhla pupočná šnúra, ktorá Lemonsa spájala s kyslíkom, elektrinou a komunikačným systémom. Yuasa a Allcock vedeli, že ich priateľ má len niekoľko minút, a tak sa pustili do pretekov s časom, aby ho našli a zachránili. O sedem rokov neskôr režiséri Alex Parkinson a Richard da Costu pomocou archívnych záberov, zvukových materiálov a rozhovorov zrekonštruovali udalosti na lodi aj pod hladinou do dokumentárneho filmu Last Breath (Posledný nádych). Úspech dokumentu inšpiroval tvorcov k tomu, aby ho premenili aj na celovečerný film.
