Príbeh sa točí okolo Haruku Nanaseho, chlapca, ktorý vždy miloval ponorenie sa do vody a kúpanie sa v nej. Pred ukončením základnej školy sa zúčastnil plaveckého turnaja spolu so svojimi kolegami z plaveckého klubu, Makotom Tachibanom, Nagisom Hazukim a Rin Matsuokom. Po víťazstve sa každý z chlapcov vydal svojou cestou. Čas plynul a uprostred ich nevýrazného stredoškolského života sa objavil Rin a vyzval Haruku na zápas, ukazujúc Haruku svoju ohromujúcu silu. Aby to takto neskončilo, Haruka opäť zvolá Makota a Nagisu a privedie novú členku menom Rei Ryugazaki, aby založili plavecký klub strednej školy Iwatobi a porazili Rin.
