Kým Infernali sú prvou generáciou prípadov spontánneho ľudského vznietenia, neskoršie generácie majú schopnosť manipulovať s plameňmi a pritom si zachovávajú ľudskú podobu. Shinra Kusakabe, mladík, ktorý získal prezývku Diablove stopy vďaka schopnosti zapáliť si nohy podľa vôle, sa pridáva k Špeciálnej hasičskej jednotke 8, ktorá pozostáva z ďalších používateľov plameňov, keď pracujú na likvidácii všetkých Pekelných bytostí, na ktoré narazia. Keď sa objaví frakcia, ktorá vytvára Infernalov, Shira začína odhaľovať pravdu o záhadnom požiari, ktorý pred dvanástimi rokmi spôsobil smrť jeho rodiny.
